Before we start writing our Business Plans for our Startup, we need to think about these things. These things can’t be denied if you want your startup to be a high performing start-up and thinking to scale it and expand it like other larger organizations of the world.
We are going to know about four things:
DNA: DNA of the company is the reason for the existence of that company. It can not be changed without changing the basic structure of the organization like human DNA. These things must be thought through deeply.
Mission: Mission follows the DNA. A mission statement can be considered as the North Star. This statement sets the direction for the company. This statement should be simple and easy to remember. Because people don’t follow the things that they can’t remember.
Let’s see mission statements of few popular companies:
Mission Statement of Microsoft:
“Our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”
Mission Statement of Google:
“To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
Mission Statement of Apple:
“Bringing the best user experience to its customers through its innovative hardware, software, and services.”
Though some companies have a bit long and difficult to remember Mission Statements too.
Vision: The vision statement comes from the mission statement with a set of objectives to achieve success. The set of goals can include:
- Financial Goal for a certain Period
- Social Goal of the Company
- The Recognition Goal
- And so on.
Vision consists of intermediate Time bound goals which are measurable.
The annual Business Plan of the company derives from the Vision of the company for that period.
And,
Values: It guides the day to day working of the company which everyone should abide.
DNA tells others about You.
Mission tells about your Ultimate Goal.
Vision tells about your Time Bound Goals.
and Values are the guiding rules one should abide by.
